What species of turtle/tortoise is he trying to rehome? This would be helpful, perhaps someone here would take him in if the species was known...and if not it still is helpful to offer advise :p

Hi Porcha:

Besides it not being right, its illegal in most states to set a captive turtle free. As a last resort, it can be given to the humane society, but there are lots of folks who will take it in. Just place an ad on Craig's list or in the local classified paper for a free turtle.

(I think Porcha said she was in Iowa)

I think I already mentioned to you wasn't it, the reptile rescue in Des Moines? Depending where you are, there are other rescue options we could offer too.

You can do a post right here on the forum to find it a new home. Just post a pic of the turtle and the general location in the country where it can be picked up. I bet you'll have several offers.

Is this the same friend/roomate who wants to get a tortoise?
If you turn one into a rescue because you cant afford it or care for it, i doubt they will adopt
one to you.
Post something here for your friend or have them join and post it in adoptions. To get more local replies, you should try Craigslist.. or find a good rescue to turn it into. Your local shelter for dogs and cats is prob not equipped to house a turtle. Most have no clue.

Red ear slider most likely, try and find someone with a nice big outdoor pond.
