We got the first Russian a little over a year ago and I must admit didn't know much about them. I thought because of my pre-med background, lots of sciences, biology, chemistry, zoology etc it would be a piece of cake with a rock with 4 legs. Boy was I wrong!

So....See the picture and tell me what this racing stripe is. Was it missing something during the time I've had him, a growth spurt or what? He may have had some of it when we brought him home, can't remember.

Thanks All....

PS.....if there is any flack coming at me, I have my jacket on!

Yeah, they're a bit different from warm-blooded creatures. ;)

Interesting yellow stain...How long have you has him? Any chance of a closeup of the carapace?

Here's a close, I thought it was growth, sort of like fingernails. Or maybe a brunette, doing blond? HahaIMG_0390[1].JPG up...

No flack here, John. We sometimes 'get serious' with new members who ask questions then argue about our answers, but flack? No.

Beautiful tortoise, and great new growth. It seems like unsymmetrical (is that a word?) growth, but bear in mind that the silhouette has to stay the same, so some areas might grow faster than others in order to keep the correct silhouette.
