After many years, my female started digging. The first nest was empty. The second had only one egg! That was five days ago and I haven't seen her dig since. Is this normal? if not, any suggestions? Thanks

Sorry, I'm not up on the radiata breeding habits. Someone will be along to help you, though. We have a few radiata keepers here.

Thanks...
From my experience with other tortoises, I've thought of three possible explanations...
1) When I wasn't looking, she laid other eggs in other places
2) Sometimes first-time layers only lay one egg, or
3) She's unable to pass the other eggs.
It seems unlikely that she's eggbound because her behavior seems pretty normal. I'm hoping that she laid other eggs when I wasn't looking... because then it would be possible that I could get a really great surprise in 2019....

Update....
It's option #3.
I soaked her for a long time and finally a cracked egg appeared.
The optimist in me is hoping she excavates again to deposit a third egg.
