Just checked on Tatum. He has dug himself a little indention in the substrate on the food side of his enclosure next to the tunnel and hunkered down for a nap. He has never done this before. He has only once even slept on that side. Do they have to throw in a weird behavior every once in a while, just to keep us on our toes:D Really, I didn't see any placed I looked that said they will act like kids and test you:p

They change and do different things as they get older. For example: Often my hatchlings don't want to use their humid hides much. By the time they are 3-4 months old they are usually sleeping in them every night.

My leopards occasionally dig in like that a little too. Usually when they are outside and "done" for the day.

Yep, he is done for the day. He had his soak, crawled around on my shoulder for a while, had a bite to eat and then went and fell asleep and is still there. He has never slept outside his hide. The little bugger:D

One day I came home and found both of mine dug into the substrate so only the tops of their shells were showing. I think Tom said it best with their behaviors changing with age. Keeps thing interesting for us, right? :p

I don't think there are many animals, that don't change their patterns every so often. Also, yes you can consider your tortoise to be very much like having a child... except the tortoise never talks back nor does it slam doors. ;) :D

I guess I never thought it that way. When my animals were puppies, kittens, foals, etc yah they kept you guessing. I just never thought about a tort. In that way, as they can and have to take care of themselves from hatching. However he did it to me again this a.m. Sitting on an angle on a piece of rock I have being used as wall, holding the sub. from going into the water dish. I think he is doing it on purpose.
So glad they can't talk back.:D But I think some of the Sulcata owners might have a different answer as far as can't slam doors:p
