I'm planning on getting a baby red foot and the temperature in my room is around 80 degrees Fahrenheit at all times do I still need a heat lamp?

Hi Greg, and welcome to the Forum!

Yes. A tortoise needs more than "ambient" in order to warm up clear down to their inner core. They have to be able to sit under the "sun" or on a rock that's been heated by the "sun" in order to do that.

Oh ok I see thank very much...
I'm also a little confused about the UVB lamp because I saw a YouTube video that said that the protein that they consume is what helps them process calcium not the UVB as in other tortoises this is the video so I don't know if I need one

I think what the video meant was that turtles and tortoises that eat animal protein are getting vitamin d3 from that. Do you feed your RF tortoise animal protein?
