That really is a nice pair. Their shells are beautifully smooth. Do you know if they were captive raised or wild caught? If captive, they look well cared for and are worth $400-600 in my book.
I'll ask the question to be sure, but I'm certain they are WC. You can see where the male has grown in captivity with the new growth being lower down. If anyone out there can grow a captive bred tort from the EGG as good as this female then we need to know how they were cared for .That really is a nice pair. Their shells are beautifully smooth. Yeah, I did inquire about one while back when I was brand new to the hobby and to me hypo meant just a shell color and nothing else (ie no big deal...Gets---or asks. I don't many hypos selling here in the US for the prices I see them advertised for. I think a lot of the breeders have pie-in-the-sky expectations.
Ok! So WHAT really IS IT ??!!!! that makes those hypos so expensive???!!! I would understand double the price of a cherry, but 1700-2K???!!!! That's insane!!! Is it really that costly to breed them? If so, what component of it is so pricey? I am just curious.Talk about anything in my threads, I don't mind.
I think they are wild caught as adults. If not then somebody knows the secret to growing them to look wild and is not telling us.lol.
Supply and demand dictates price with everything in life.Ok! So WHAT really IS IT ??!!!! that makes those hypos so expensive???!!! I would understand double the price of a cherry, but 1700-2K???!!!! I guess....Supply and demand dictates price with everything in life.
Yes I get it, only.... most of us don't buy our pets with the intent of breeding them... I for one, would love to collecting a group over the years. I love the idea of collecting! My first love collecting has been in plants. I love all kinds of them and collect them in my "specimen garden". Having few tortoises roaming my garden is very appealing but those little hypos are just cost prohibitive. It's ok to me they are all beautifulHypo is a term referring to the sought after genetic trait that is heritable. Like with all reptiles, a phenotypic hypo, bred with another phenotypic hypo will produce 100% hypo offspring. This will recoup all of your investment as a breeding project, with heavy profit. You will then be selling 5-20 at 15-1700 ea yourself theoretically.
This is why the prices are high.
