To me, I think reporting one of the threads is better than the user itself, but its not much of a difference. If the user is reported, I just have to check their post history. vs the reported thread is itself evidence of spam.

Once a user is designated as spam by moderators, the part of the software that deals with them is automatic, so reporting every post by the spammer isn't necessary. But it also doesn't hurt anything.

If the spam post are all from the same poster then only one spam post needs to be reported. If they are different posters then report each different one
If you report the original owner of the thread that the spams are in, then we would have to go thru all the posts in that thread to find what the alert was about, this could lead to a legit member getting slammed if a mod doesn't realize its not the original OP that's the problem.

Okay, in the future I will just report one of the spam posts. Today I reported one user that had been created today and had already posted a few of those spell adverts and nothing else.

Yeah once we spam a user, they are automatically banned and all their posts are deleted or moved to the to be deleted section.

Btw, thanks for reporting them. It really helps us out when members do this.
The security/spam measures that are put on this forum just can't catch them all. The spammers change the ways they try to get thru often and it's impossible to keep up with them. Until we get enough of them that are similar, that's when Josh can pinpoint a catch word or phrase for the spam system to catch.

Some spammers are very creative. Others are incredibly lazy.

I didn’t realise how helpful it is to be reporting the spam for the mods! Will definitely do that from now on🙂
Some get flagged automatically by filters. Others get through. Sometimes it's several pages of them. Often in Chinese script.

Yeah I’ve always just figured they’ll get flagged once one of the mods sees them, but I’ll report any I happen to see if it helps🙂

The ones that gets stopped by the spam filters, you/regular members don't see, only us mods see them and we spam them which also bans them. Any you/members see, has gotten thru the spam filters. We would have to go thru every thread and scroll past every post to find any spam that might be there, so yes, it helps a lot to report them. Then we get alerted and can go right to that post/thread.

I totally agree with that. I am the only spam moderator on Josh's other forums, and I have to read (or look at) every single new post made since I last looked. It takes me almost an hour every morning. If I could depend on the members reporting the spam it would save so much time.

I'm usually up pretty early in the morning and usually see at least a couple of spam posts then. I'll try to be more diligent with flagging them. :)

Wow. What are the odds?
I was doing a sweep of like 40 posts.
"Guaranteed to bring Demons"? Sounds like a win-win to me.
It will not work if there's a tortoise in the house😄 🫠 There're an old Mexican legend that says that tortoises protect the household from the evil, demons, spells and black magic.
