Hello,
It’s my first time posting a question on here so I hope it works. Anyway my 8 year old redfoot tortoise has had a few respiratory issues before and we have taken her to the vet and gotten antibiotics for it, however my vet can’t get us an appointment until the end of February. I don’t want my baby to suffer and I don’t really know how to help her without the antibiotics.

Try to keep the tortoise warm and well hydrated. 85 degrees enclosure temp day and night until the appointment with daily soaks of about 20-30 minutes in water of about 90F temp.

You could call the vet's office and ask to be called on short notice if they get a cancellation before your February appointment.

Good luck.

Thanks, I keep the temps between 85 and 90 and soak her once a day for about 15 minutes right now. I’ll start doing it longer or twice a day if i can’t do it longer. The problem with the vet is its an exotic vet but there’s only one reptile specialist and the others are small mammals and birds and the reptile specialist is going on a trip for most of February so there’s really no way to get in earlier. I did call the other slightly more sketchy vet in my area and they said they aren’t currently taking turtles (even though I specifically said tortoise) and to call them back later. So idk about them.

Keep those temps up double check them with a handheld temp gun to confirm the tortoise is getting those temp. Thermostat controllers tend to read different depending on probe placement. Also listen to the breathing when you take it out for soak time to monitor for changes.
