I got Roxie in March 2010, original thread is: http://www.tortoiseforum.org/Thread-New-to-me-tort#axzz1VPP9r3fI

Since then Roxie has grown to 9.5" SCL and I think the boy/girl debate is leaning more towards girl. We moved to a new house in December, selected in part for Roxie. The previous house was on .25 acres and the new house is on 1.5 acres. The new house also includes a basement which contains a reptile room for me. The reptile room was one of the first I set up (per the wife I think it will be the last to be "finished") and Roxie was a very cranky tortoise living in an enclosure in there for the winter. It actually took me much longer to get the outdoor enclosure ready than I thought it would, mostly because I had to dig into a hill to create a flat area for the tortoise shed. I dug out a roughly 12' x 12' section of hill that sloped up 3' over that 12' distance. It was a ton of clay to move and I think I mean that literally as well as figuratively. The new outdoor tortoise yard is now roughly 30' by 40'. The fence is currently 15 or 16" at its shortest and it'll grow as Roxie does. But since everyone prefers pictures to words:

The tortoise yard (the pasture area gets full sun, that back area near the shed stays fairly shady for much of the day):

The hill I dug out for the shed (which used to have a dirt floor but now has a wood one):

Roxie's mini-pond (the drain you see only collects water from my property, so no pollution/contamination concerns):

Just some pics of Roxie being Roxie:

Roxie's leg, just because I like her scales:

And pics to give someone an opportunity to tell me I'm crazy and that Roxie is actually a Rocky after all:

I will refrain from the rocky/roxie debate simply because I am horrible at sexing sulcatas, though I will say I think she will enjoy and thrive in her enclosure.

Wow great job! I just loving looking at pics of everyone's enclosures, I'm getting some great ideas for Gizmo. I've always been a huge animal lover/dog person but now I'm getting very fascinated with all the different types of tortoises.

Mike, you are livin' the dream man. And so is Roxie. Outstanding work. Its an example of what we ought to strive for. And Roxie is looking fantastic. I love her leg scales too.

Thank you for taking the time to post all these pics for us.

Thanks for all the comments. Roxie seems to like her yard well enough, or at the very least there haven't been any attempts to dig out or create burrows. I have enough room around her to quadruple her fenced-in area when she gets big enough, but for now it already can take me up to 20 minutes each night to find her to lock her in her shed. Sulcata may come from hotter, drier parts than IN, but they are perfectly adapted for hiding in lush green weeds!

I love it. Did you run power to the shed? Nice job.

The shed is temporarily electrified using an extension cord. I've already installed the breaker and purchased the wire to power it for real, I'll start on that tonight. My weather and my "emergency" setup in the basement have caused me to procrastinate on that aspect longer than I should have.
