This is my latest rescue. He was "found" in the backyard as a hatchling (they had the parents) about 4 or 5 years ago. He's been kept in the back yard all this time, but now the keeper has gone away to college and the tortoise is in a guinea pig cage and unhappy. He's a very pretty Russian tortoise with nice growth, and a good disposition. Not afraid of humans at all.

He's up for adoption to anyone within my geographical area (Central California), no adoption fee, but I have to come see your yard to be sure its a safe place for a Russian tortoise.

I didn't measure him, but he's on the small side. He's breeding age, though (don't tell anyone, but he's not in quarantine, he's in with my Russians and he's breeding the females).

even though many people on the forum ID'd my small Russian as female in convinced its not. I keep picking up all three of them and although the one in question had a short tail, its nowhere near as short as my known female.
Its a good thing you just can't go buy a tortoise off the shelf, id have way more than i need! That being said, i do have room for a few (3 at the most) more! Just got to find them in the right order.
So my next will have to be Female!

We live in Santa Clara, California and would be very interesting in giving that tortoise a home. Our backyard would be a perfect environment for a tortoise, it is a patio with lots of room, dirt areas, and shade. We would love to make this work, please message me with more information!

To all of those who have expressed an interest in this tortoise:

For my own peace of mind, as well as the safety of any tortoise that I adopt out, I have to do a yard inspection. Because of that, I only adopt my rescues to folks here in my geographical area.

Thank you for your interest.
