It looks an awful lot like my hollyhock.

I do see the squash resemblance too though...

I can still see the "seed leaves" at the base of the plant... Yeah gotta be in the squash family..

So it's safe for him to eat? I looked online by couldn't really match the plant with the pictures

It doesn’t look like a malva to me.

I guess we’ll have to wait for a flower before we reach group agreement!

With that hungry tortoise, I don't think that that squash-looking vine will last long enough to flower without some protection. Perhaps something on the order of a tomato cage will allow it to grow while still providing a meal for your tortoise.
