First is dandelion and is very good as a food for your tortoise. Fourth is a berry of some type, blackberry or raspberry also very good for your tortoise. With the berry vine, you want to be sure and remove the center vein that has those spikes on the underside of the leaf. Also be sure to remove any of the redwood needles from the trees that are dried. These are not in and of themselves toxic for your tortoise, but the pointed ends can be a source of injury to the fleshy parts of the mouth or eyes.

In the more open areas, meadows and such, you should find more edible plants. Thursday, I will take some pictures of weeds to keep your eyes open for.

Looks like a thistle to me, but don't ask me which one. ;)

If a thistle, that means safe to feed :)
Thanks

Cats ear has furry leaves. It's drought hardy and tougher than dandelion. View attachment 57701

Hi Ken, thanks for your great pictures and wonderful info. I thought Cat's ear = Dandelion. LOL
However, I tried to feed my baby sulcata those weeds I found. He only accept the dandelion so far, he is only two months old. Is it normal that baby tortoises don't like weeds?? But I know it's good for them.
