My old half -log finally developed some mold (?) fungus(?) from being too moist. I want to make a new tunnel using multiple branches glued together in an arch, and then waterproof it with some spar urethane.
...But what kinds of woods are considered to be safe for a red foot decoration?

All I know is that pine and cedar are toxic to torts. Not sure about all the others but I'd be cautious with glues/stains/sealants. Whatever you end up using be sure to air it out really well. I'd think that if you use a good sealant (nonpermeable type) let it cure before putting it into the enclosure. I had issues with wood molding as well and ended up using premade resin type that you buy at petstore. If I had to do it again, I'd go simply with digging a hole right size to fit my tort, and cover it with slate tile, or maybe something lighter that fits the purpose, plus substrate on top of it. Then you get a tunnel, a hill he can climb on and digging opportunity, dark and very humid place for him to sleep in.
