I am so glad you are enjoying the stories about him. He was quite a unique tortoise.
Be sure to look up Gertie and Millie's excellent adventure. That's a 2 parter that I worked very hard on, and even I lol.
Maggie, today is the second day I'm reading your stories about Bob and they are all wonderful. Some of them made me laughed so hard that I scared people around me. Some of them brought tears to my eyes.. I am sorry that I made you cry remembering him. Thank you for sharing. I hope you will always be healthy and happy.

You didn't make me cry, missing him so much and rereading some of the stuff he did makes me cry and laugh too, at the same time.
Mike thinks the funniest is when Bob wrecked the foundation on a corner of my house and massacred 10 rose bushes......in less than an hour. He kept me hopping and he was usually one step ahead of me....

I read that story. You were furious you almost put Bob in auction. :D

Now maggie, does Sam or did Bob poop in his pond? How do you clean it? What is the best way to provide an outdoor waddling pool that's easy to care for?

No they do not. The box turtles and a giant toad do. I fell on the bottom cracking the cement, so throughout the day the water, and gook leaks out so I put clean water in daily. Somebody who really knows how to make ponds needs to tell you. I dug Bob's hole out myself. After he died I decided to create a nice place for the box turtles, so I dug some more, and layered it with a thin coating of cement. But it's deep and I didn't plan a way to clean it. So I took out all the cement but the bottom.. Possibly a small creek type thing and a pond liner would be better. Somebody with more experience needs to tell you....@terryo

No, neither Sulcata do or did. But a huge toad and the box turtles do.
I dug Bob's water hole out and put water in, that was good enough for him. But when he died I decided to make it nice for the box turtles. So I dug it out some more and layered it with a thin coating of cement. But I didn't think about a way to clean. So I dug out all the cement but the bottom. Then one day I fell on the bottom and cracked the cement. So it leaks out all day long, water and gook. So I add clean water daily.

You really need someone who actually knows how to do it correctly. Maybe a small stream (running ware) and a pond liner. But I'm not the right one for you....I'd talk to @N2

Hy Ya Maggie .....To do things right you can add a pond liner with a base of sand and then a minimum 2" layer of concrete on top of that , this will aid in any punctures- and make it leak proof. You will need the concrete to thicken up and trowel it on like plaster (up the sides - make sure too keep moist during first few days of curing to prevent cracking) The next decision is if you want any kind of water features. If not a good filtration system is a must. These can be are submersible and one hose lead to hang outside the water hole it self for fast drainage, This can be blocked off from your tortoise with some heavy boulders/ I would add some sort of flat stone in there as well...although Sullies' are notorious for mud baths. Even for just a
mud hole the water will stay =keep much cleaner for tort. Or I like your idea ....just fill it when it gets dirty...
Any other questions fire away....~:)

PS: Love the Video....

All your 3 answers are here Maggie. Thanks for calling N2torts and Terryo. I'm more a hole digger like you. When the time comes, I should definitely hire someone like N2torts who knows what he's doing. If I were to do it myself I would mess it up for sure.

N2torts, thanks for sharing. Beautiful pond!! I am taking notes here. I also want to tell you that I love your posts, especially about the hatchlings.

This what I have done with Bob's old swimming hole. It's still not on a par with N2TORTS, or Terry's but I did it my self, and I like it and so do the box turtles, and the one Sulcata who swims in it every morning.....

Lot's of hiding places for the turtles against the Hawks and Turkey Vultures. The water is about thigh high to me.
Oh, that's right! This is the picture with 4 box turtles in it that nobody can find all 4.....

I have tried at various time to 1. Give Bob away, 2. Auction him off, 3. Sell him, 4. Pay someone to take him, TFO just laughed at me......:<3::<3::<3:
I love him so.....still

I can only find 3.. How is your water bill having a pond like that? My aunt lives in Texas. She said it's rocketing to the sky.
Btw the video really shows how pretty Bob's marginal (? not sure I'm using the right word) was. I've never seen one that is so long and curved up like that. But of course I'm just a newbie. It looks like a crown, perfect for a King!

Look over to the right at the edge of the water, a brown leaf and a lighter brown yearling 3-toed. He's still pretty small. It's not a fair contest.
We have well water. It's free.
I loved the way he smiled all the time. Especially when he'd been bad.

I've noticed how it seems like most sulcatas have frowny faces. Charlie has a smile too. I love it. He looks so hopeful.

Yep! I so totally agree....I have a yearling 3-toed who smiles also. Bob was always smiling. He was either getting in trouble, or just grazing n stuff, but he had more different expressions. I have, maybe, 3000 pix on 2 different computers. Both have Linux operating systems, and I just leave them because I am afraid to lose them. Both have have had money spent on them, and my Acer cost over $100 to fix, but it still won't connect to any server, and my pix won't show up now. And that's where most of my Bob stories and photos are. With him dead now, I WANT those stories and photos. With my brain problems, I don't want to lose those memories. But it seems to me that poor people get screwed ( can I use that word?)out of a decent life more than anybody.

No wonder I can't find it. I also have well water here. Lucky you, maggie! And lucky torts too.
