Hi everyone

Posted below are pics of my 12 yr old female sulcata marshmallow. I noticed about mid June that she had some flakyness on her vertebral scutes. It has not progressed at all but has not gotten any better. I have made an apt for her to be seen but want to see if anyone has seen this before.

Some backround is she does get vitamin and calcium powder on her food as well as cuddle bones. She is soaked 1-2 times a week. otherwise a very active, sassy sulcata tortoise. I do not believe her heat lamp is too close or that anything has fallen on her so i am at a loss

What are you using for heat? How far is it from the tortoise when basking? It looks similar to other large sulcatas where heat lamps have caused issues with scutes over time.

Why would my Sulcata lose a scute?

I have a 23 yr old male Sulcata. Today the top scute on his shell fell off?. Many years ago (we believe) he got to close to the heat lamp. The edges around that scute were soft and oozzy for a few days, but all healed and he has been fine for years (5-10 years since that happened). Anyway...

Need help with Sulcata losing scute

Hi all, This scute fell off the back and I think the one below it is also loosening. The white creamy stuff showing is hard and crusty, it does not look like pus to me. The irregular shell growth around the middle scute has been there since I bought her from someone else more than 10 years ago...
