My Russian is like that, too, and his humidity is fine. I think it's normal as far as I know.

Should we soak him more than 2 to 3 times a week for 15 to 20 minutes? He seems to not like when we put him in the water so we give him a few little carrot pieces after we soak him as a treat and he seems to be enjoying them a bit more

Most of the Russians are wild caught, their shells get banged up out in the wild. They climb over and under rocks, sometimes I'm sure they get flipped over and fall etc.it's just rough on them. So they get the little nicks and scrapes. The show actually looks pretty good. But definitely keeping hydrated, spray down the shell occasionally. check out the coconut oil thread and see what you think, but I would suggest to go lightly. natural sunshine and good hydration will help a lot. And many of the little scrapes will disappear slowly but some will always be there to add character.
