I just got this tortoise and he seems pretty active and healthy I was wondering if I should be concerned about his shell at all. The spacing between his top scutes and rear scutes are wider than the rest, was that due to rapid growth or something I should be concerned about? Or am I just overreacting?

I'm not sure what you mean. How about some more pics, especially from back end looking forward, and of the plastron. But show us a profile and face end, too. Also, pics of the enclosure you are keeping your tortoise in.

The overall shell is pretty. It seems fairly smooth.

Do you know much about what it was kept like before you. How old?

Tell us everything!

Hi I’m late to this thread lol, but couldn’t help but notice he’s in one of those commercial wooden tortoise houses, they don’t tend to provide the roaming rooms tortoises need unfortunately, though I have seen some cool creations of folks putting multiple together! Anyway I thought I’d pass on some links you might find helpful🥰

This thread covers correct equipment(uvb, heating bulbs, lighting etc, definitely double check bulb types, folks unfortunately sold the wrong ones often), correct levels, appropriately maintaining the humidity, safe substrates, there’s lots of visual examples for everything, and the tortoise table link

This includes lots of inspiration for an adult set up both indoors and out! The indoor bit has some good ideas to tackle indoor space whilst still providing the needed roaming room! Check comments too, I’m always adding to it, I have a huge back log I need to add

Lastly, this one here is good to go over and keep on hand, it’ll help you avoid the wrong bulbs, substrates, housing etc, I always encourage double checking purchases on the forum too before buying😊

Hope they come in handy for you and your shelled companion🐢💚
