Shell question

I'm new on this forum and I have a lot of questions XD
I'm sure this has been asked before but I just have to make sure everything is ok

1)Tomas has a white around his shell and it's hard. Does that just mean he's growing?
He's a picture:


2) his shell is curling at the bottom where his back legs are. Is that normal?

Do you know how long it will take for the shell to grow on the white line?

That is the shell. It may darken with exposure to sun, but it is the new growth.
