Hi, I'm a new tortoise keeper and was wondering do all tortoises have the same amount of shutes on shell?
My Harley has a wonky kinda extra or maybe separated one, I just thought it was normal but I haven't seen on any other torts.
It's been like that since I got her and doesn't bother her but just wondered what and why?

Hi and welcome! When you get a chance, might want to go up to the introduction area and tells us about yourself. As for your tortoise, sounds like you have a tortoise with extra or split scutes. Nothing wrong with it, it's completely a cosmetic thing. One which I think makes such animals much more special. It is normally caused by a high temperature during incubation of the egg, but not always.

Looks like Harley was hatched with a split scute. Definitely makes him more special. :)

Welcome to the forum. :)
