Shipping Issues/Questions

I have found a new home for my 4 year old Russian tortoise but having trouble shipping him. USPS said no. UPS said no local stores. When I called the 1800 UPS they said you had to have a business account to ship. There is not a FEDEX near me. The pet store suggested Delta Cargo but they are not shipping unless military orders. Please help. I just found ship your reptiles. You have to schedule pickup so not sure how this will work. Any suggestions? He is going from Florida to Arizona.

I have used Shipyourreptiles many times. You do not have to schedule a pickup if you are able to drop the package off at anyplace which deals with FEDEX. I have dropped my shipments off at PAK MAIL stores several times. Office Depot/Office Max also ship via FEDEX. If any of those are near you, you could drop off the package there.

You just need to check with the store (not FEDEX) to find out when the latest time would be to drop off a NEXT DAY package so that it would go out that same day and then get it there prior to that time.

shipyourreptiles.com also give you the choice to ship via UPS overnight as well as FedEx. With UPS, you can drop off at most any UPS location - so will be much closer to you for your drop off and the pickup at the other end. With FedEx you can only drop off and pick up at designated central locations.

I only ship tortoises as overnight with pickup by 10:30 next morning. I don't want them in a delivery van riding around with who knows how many other stop made first! I drop off after 3PM at the location here, and the receiving party picks up the very next morning by 10:30.

I also recommend only shipping Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Mondays are too busy. Thursday leaves no error room and if there is a problem the tortoise could be sitting somewhere until Monday.

Put your tortoise in a tight fitting cloth bag, or in a tied old T shirt or pillowcase to minimize movement. With it secured and snug in a bag, in a dark box, it will sleep while in transit. Don't give it room to move about in the box.
