Hi, I just got a 4 week old sulcata. I was wondering if I should keep her/his cage humid. I’ve heard some things about it. If so how do I do it and do I need to buy anything for it? She is living in a glass aquarium thing. Sorry I forgot it’s name. I am new and don’t know how to send pictures. Thanks. -Jaid

Yes if you don’t keep it humid this will stunt growth, it should be at 80% humidity or higher to have good smooth growth

I have a 6 year old sulcata too. I was for when I got her and didn’t know how to properly take care of her. I didn’t keep her cage humid.

Here is the care info. Please read through it carefully and come back with any questions.

You measure your humidity with a hygrometer. Lowes sells a combo thermometer/hygrometer that records highs and lows for about $10.

Or this one from Walmart:

I don't know about stunting their growth, but I DO know that if you don't keep them humid their shells will grow bumpy (pyramiding). Without having seen your 6yr old, I'd be willing to bet he's pretty bumpy. They're supposed to be smooth.

She is bumpy. I would send a pic but I don’t know how.

You'll figure it out eventually. We all started where you are now. I can give you computer instructions, but am very ignorant when it comes to smart phones.

Choose "upload a file"
Decide which picture you want in your device then choose it
When it loads as a thumbnail, choose "full image"

Hi Jaid! Welcome! I read twice that you got your older tortoise when you were four. Are you ten years old now? Do you have an adult ready to buy all that you need? I may be incorrect on your age.

I did the math and was wondering that too, OP said tortoise is 6, and they got it when they were 4

I just turned 11. Yes I have $400 that I am able to spend on them.
Do you have someone that can help you build 2 inside enclosures? My husband and I are building one right now for our 18 month old tortoise we got two weeks ago. The recommended size is 4x8.

Yes I do. I am trying to figure out how we can make a closed chamber for my older one.

Ok. I have been gone for a while and haven’t been able to feed all of them.

Get your parents to read up here as well I’m sure they’d love to help you get their enclosures together!
