well, i cut back my oleanders where he stayed in the shade all day after i caught him snacking on them. he hasnt burrowed in two years but i guess he got mad and did this in about two hours. quite enjoyable watching him engineer this nonstop. i will let him keep it in the summer and cover it up in winter and bring out his enclosure.

How deep did he get in those 2 hours?

RE: silos burrow

Hi Tom:

That is a mighty pretty sulcata! I think he's hinting for a bigger waterer. :p

I remember reading a post made by you quite a while ago that your two little sulcatas were down in their burrow, the weather was getting colder and you couldn't get them out. So, bear that in mind later on this year and if you see Silo out of the burrow on a sunny Autumn day, block that entrance so he can't get back down there!

Everybody...Silo is what a Sulcata should look like. He is almost perfect. No 'flares' along the edge of his carapace. No pyramids...He's beautiful.

hey Tom, how old is he? Has he lived in Texas all his life? That's what sun does for them...

wow i must concur with everyone, that is one BEAUTIFUL tortoise. i hope one day that einstein can grow up to be as good looking healthy and happy. wow thats only two hours of digging ?! phenomenal, i didnt know they could burrow that quickly, if i ever saw that, i'd be outside all day watching haha. funny how our torts seem to have this captivating effect on people, even my friends get caught staring and watching einstein for hours at a time.
