My female Russian 4-5 yrs old. Shares habitat with male 10+ yrs.
Will they be able to mate? How will I know if they have been productive?

What does this have to do with skin sloughing? How do you know the younger one is a female? There are numerous threads on this forum about why it is wrong to keep 2 torts in the same enclosure, especially inside. Do some reading, please.

They are outside. I got the female from Petco 3 years ago. They showed me how to tell the gender by the shape of the tail. Having more than two might be a problem. They get along fine. I didn't know my post was inconsistent with label.
I was asking about what foods could cause the skin to slough due to vitamin enriched or lack of diet.

Your initial posting talks about mating your 2 torts, at least that is what comes up on my screen.

I will let the experts talk about skin sloughing causes & they'll need to see photos of the tort with the problem so they can see what's going on. Also what foods are you feeding it & what, if any, supplements you're giving it & how many times per week.

There is no food or vitamin deficiency that would cause the skin to slough. That would typically caused by a vet injecting them with something that they shouldn't have.

Tortoises should never be kept in pairs. Yours do not get along fine. It is a problem, and it will eventually kill one of them. They each need their own enclosure. If you do have a male and a female, you can put them together for breeding periodically in spring and fall. You'll know breeding was successful when the female lays eggs. When that time comes, there are lots of things you'll need to know about incubation. We will help. Just ask. The eggs can stay in the ground for weeks while you get ready for incubation, so no rush to dig them up.

Please give this a read for the current and correct care info:

If you post pics showing the tails and anal scutes, we can sex your tortoises for you. People have this wrong more often than they have it right it seems. All tortoises look female as juveniles. The secondary sexual characteristics that allow us to ID the sexes don't show up until they are nearing maturity. 4-5 years old would be pretty young for a Russian, but its possible. How long have you had these tortoises? How do you know the ages? I ask because pet store people almost always get the age wrong.
