Hey all. I plan to get a younger tortoise in September, probably a well started hatchling. I'm shopping around now for supplies. Would a smaller tortoise feel more comfortable in a smaller enclosure, with the plan to upgrade later, or would it be fine to get a larger enclosure now? Thank you!

You'll need a closed chamber with high humidity for the first couple years. I would go with a large storage Tote for the first 2 years then upgrade to the larger enclosure.

Either way works. I've started hatchlings in 4x4 foot enclosures and had no issues. I've started other hatchlings in 30x18" enclosures, and that worked too.

I think a 2x4 foot closed chamber would be a great starting place, and probably last a couple of years depending on growth rate.
