For now, use plastic sheets or something similar to close off the top, but you will probably want to build something more effective and permanent. Is there something I can buy to close over the open?

You can try to make something out of glass, plexi, or tinfoil, but best to have a properly sized and designed closed chamber with the heat lamps and everything inside. I've never had success trying to modify an open topped enclosure, but some people like to do it that way.Is there something I can buy to close over the open?

You want something as enclosed as possible, so that the least amount of humidity escapes. I understand you want it to look good. For the hide could I put the two pieces of wood together?
Will it be airtight with only one little door for the tortoise?, if yes, then yes. The idea is to contain that air so that as the moisture evaporates from the substrate, the humid air is trapped in the humid hide. This is why half logs don't work as humid hides. They are too open and the good air just drifts away and mixes with the ambient air.For the hide could I put the two pieces of wood together?
