Hey everybody
I currently treat the water I soak my tortoise in with a product from the pet store that is supposed to remove chlorine and other chemicals. I was wondering if plain old tap water is actually ok, or if it can hurt my tort.

Thanks:)

Tap water is fine. It's what I use, and it's what I offer them to drink. No problems in the last year and a half.

Tap here too, just like Peanutbutter said. But instead of paying for a 'water treatment' product, you could boil the H2o and then store in a big jug for later use, just a thought. You can also go to your county water treatment plant (or what ever services you have where you live) and have it tested, you'll find out for sure whats in it!

The general consensus for most reptiles (but not necessarily amphibians) is that if you can drink your tap water, your tortoise can drink it as well. Oddly, hard water is often considered great for a lot of reptiles since one of the reasons it is hard is the dissolved calcium in it.

The chlorine added to the water can be removed by just letting the water sit out for a day if it worries you. If your town uses other methods, your town's water people can help a lot! Usually with options cheaper than the pet store stuff.
