I am going to be using potted plants in my indoor enclosure for my baby redfoot that I will bury into the mulch. I've read mixed things on what type of soil to get and what needs to be avoided. Can anyone tell me the latest and greatest on this topic? I've read topsoil really doesn't have all that many nutrients that plants need, but I've also read certain additives in potting soil can be dangerous if ingested by the tortoise. I want to ensure my plants have what they need to flourish but also protect my baby redfoot. Any specific recommendations are welcome. Thanks!

You want a top soil that is chemical free. Also any plants you get should be transplanted in this new clean soil, and giving several months before being put in the enclosure to insure they don't have any of the bad chemicals in them if the tortoise eats them. Also covering the top soil with substrate will prevent them getting into the soil. I don't have a soil recommendation. I know some people just plant their plants directly into the bioactive substrate mixes they get for their enclosure. Here's a picture of another way to do it. As well
