Hello everybody I would like to share the diet for my star tortoise, just to confirm if its the right diet for it.Things could be wrongly indicated , so I would appreciate it if you correct me. I will surely answer and let you know. Since I live in india there is a very limited stock of things available to feed my tortoise. I also give it a home made calcium block which I scrape on its food , as well as some tortoise food supplement .

*I give it nearly every day
**I give it 3 times in a week
***I give it sparingly

1)Bermuda grass*
2)Fescue grass*
3)Wheat and lemon grass**
4)Escarole*
5)Romaine**
6)Fenugreek***
7)Rose leaves **
8)Hibiscus leaves**
9)Apple***

Since you are in India try adding some native weeds. Any access to opuntia cactus? They love that stuff and it's good for them. I would probably leave the apple out of his diet indefinitely.

The thing is that in India the native weeds are not readily available in gardens (and I don't have my personal garden), and we don't get seeds to plant them.
Okay I will remove apple from the diet, and feed it once a month. Another question is that is lemon and wheat grass okay for it, because I have never heard about it but it is available. And I want to add as many species as possible. And thanks for the reply

Lemon grass is a herb, so it should be fine. Does it have a strong smell? Since you re limiting the apple now, your ditet sounds fine.

I would not feed apple at all. Or any other fruit.

I don't know what is available there, so I don't know what to recommend. You need more variety. I know they have livestock there, can you get some alfalfa seed? You need more leafy greens. Do they have mulberry trees there? They do everywhere else in the world but I've never been to India. How about grapevines? There must be more stuff at the grocery store too. Collard greens? Carrot tops? Cilantro?

This is my updated diet sheet :
1)Mustard Greens*
2)Escarole*
3)Romaine*
4)Fenugreek **
5)Wheat grass*
6)Bermuda grass*
7)Fescue grass*
8)Rose leaves**
9)Hibiscus leaves**
10)Cilantro**
11)Spinach**

Tom there may be grape leaves(vines) but I live in the city I will try though. But there aren't any mulberry trees in the city, there would be a few in the wild though.Talking about live stock (goats and cows) they eat other things. And if I enquire nobody would know about alfalfa. Ordering from amazon.com could be an option. In the market there are mostly vegetables, though I will try to add some leafy greens. We don't get any collard greens but, we do get carrot tops and cilantro. Thanks for the reply
