I don't understand why my 4 year old Hermann's keeps scratching at 3 particular places in her enclosure, i think it's because she can see her shadow, does she need a companion? Please help.

I don't think that your tort needs a companion: torts do not like company.

He could be in need of more space more room or he may be just restless.

Space is an issue I know. Please keep in mind that these cute little animals are used to wander around in the wild with NO borders, NO boundaries, NO "traffic lights." Therefore, no matter how large the enclosure of a tort, he/she would always want and search for more space.

These are good points and advice that @Gillian Moore has brought up.

A lot of times people want to say that torts in glass scratch because they can see out. It happens in tables like you have too. He just wants out to explore, that means the enclosure is not big enough. What you can do is add sight barriers where he can't see every wall.

And no he doesn't need another companion

@cmac3 and @Gillian Moore have nailed it really. Add some half logs, plant pots and grow your owns. You can buy trays of tortoise food seeds which they love and it creates a more natural and enriching environment.
