Hi I posted a question last week about my 6yr old horsfield, why does she scratch inside her shed nearly all day when she could be basking in the sun ? she is separated from Charlie both inside and outside. They both have door ways where they have the choice of coming out or staying in. The weather here is lovely at the moment but a bit of frost at night and cool out of the sun. With this in mind their Arcadia heat bulbs are kept on all day as they can go in to warm up. Charlie is out most of the time occasionally going back in to warm up.

It is a burrowing species, and even though there's hard floor and walls inside the house the need to dig and enlarge the burrow is strong.

Thankyou, so no need to worry then , it's all normal behaviour.

The “bottom/right hand side” of the enclosure looks rather small(ish) - I’m guessing that's the one that is scratching about? Try to make that side larger if you can... I might be totally off here...if so, just disregard! ?

Hi no that’s Charlie and photo doesn’t show the layout very good , I’ll send a better picture. Would have made enclosure bigger had I have known they were male and female. They got along fine till end of last year.

Hi if I can persuade John to make tortoises enclosures larger what do you suggest. Photos are on an earlier post, we had to separate them after they didn’t get on last summer so now they only have half of what they originally had. Ideas would be appreciated.
