Lately, my 1-1.5 y/o sulcata has been eating only from the ground.
The problem is that a lot of ground sticks to the food and she ends up eating quite a lot of ground.
Even if i put her in the food tray, she doesn't eat, she'll just walk out of it and start eating the ground until i put her some food on the ground.

we tried using different color trays, they arent tall or hard to get into.

is that normal?

Lay the food on a large flat piece of tile or stone. Upload a pix of your feeding area....torts do what they do, you just need to manage their behaviors and work with them. So, get a large stone tile, place food in the middle and that should help fix the eating dirt issue.

Good luck

I tried several food trays, non seem to do the trick.

I even filled it with some forbidden fruit to try to lure her in there.

I use a large (14") ceramic tile as a feeding station. There is no lip and it lays flat on the substrate. I also use fir bark substrate, which doesn't stick to the food as badly as dirt-type substrates.

Not normal.

I use the big trays that you'd get at a fast food restaurant. Put the food in the middle and don't offer it anywhere else. A hungry tortoise is not a picky tortoise.
