Since you say he's "new," maybe its from whatever he's been eating. Just soak him every day and hopefully it will all flush out and he'll be sweet and pretty!! :p

It probably smells like turtle farm. Which could make you feel like you're in the middle of a cow pasture. soak him for about 20 to 30 minutes Take a soft toothbrush and tried to wipe some away after he's been in water for a little bit or a cotton ball. Do you know what they were feeding him?

They usually do not smell bad at all, but I guess this is relative. If something smells rotten you might have an abscess or infection somewhere. Have you checked him carefully? Or is it more of a herbivorous poopy smell? I have a 4x8' closed chamber that is stuffy, hot, humid, and filled with around 30 hatchlings to 3 month olds right now and it does not smell at all when I stick my whole head in there to retrieve the ones at the back.

he does have an injury on his shell. have been treating it and it has cleared up alot. i think it is from all the poop that seems to gather around his tail area. any ideas to clean this area. he is 24 inchs long and weighs about 60 lbs.
