sunflower?

Sunflowers are a natural weed here. Are they edible for sulcatas, I have access to them in my dad's pesticide free lawn. I'm sure he would love for me to pick those along with the other weeds lol

As far as I know they are toxic if consumed in large amounts. I won't plant them anywhere near the tortoise enclosures mostly because anywhere that sunflower seeds fall everything under those seeds dies. That makes me weary of letting the tortoises near them.

I researched this a while back. From what I could find the leaves are not toxic, but I got mixed info, or no info, on the flowers, stems and roots.

I fed some leaves to my adult sulcatas and they ate them up like candy. I did not see any ill effects. Because of the mixed info and because I have other stuff available, I decided not to feed sunflowers leaves often or in quantity. On rare occasion, I might toss a few leaves in their pen.

Mine eat them readily and without observable ill effect.
