Everyone,
If you remember, I had an environmental incubation issue that resulted in numerous fractures on a Redfoot egg that was laid on the ground. Environmental issues were rectified but with all the superglue I couldn't see anything difinative inside while candling. So I've been left to wonder...

Today during my morning check there is pipping! So excited and concerned at the same time! It's day 121, a little early, from what I've read.

I'm recording the event with my new video camera that records in HD for 15 hours at a time! I should be able to get the whole process!

I'll keep you posted. Please root for the little guy makeing it!

Thanks.

This is going to sound like a dumb question but wouldn't... the super glue prevent them from breaking out perhaps? Unless it's a really really thin layer... superglue or krazy glue is nasty stuff...

Great information, Congrats. What are those tubes going into your incubator?

I think they are the legs to his camera taped to the incubator.

SuperGlue works great on cracked or split eggs but you only put a little dab on the crack---you don't coat the entire egg.

update: the little guy/gal is making progress!

The 'tubes' going into the incubator is indeed the tri-pod for the camera.

The superglue was used on the cracks that were mainly on the bottom half of the shell. I'm watching VERY closely to make sure he/she can get out. If superglue gets in the way, I'll help him out.

121 days is right on the money at incubation temps of 83 - 86 °F (or there abouts). I think you'll need a little more than 15 hours if you are recording continuously. They can and usually do take 2 - 3 days to hatch completely.

That's the beauty of downloading the footage to an external hard drive, clearing the card and starting over! And through the magic of editing, I'll condense it to 5 minutes!

So happy for you!! I hope you post the video once you finish!! I actually thought the mounted camera was so you could watch the eggs in real time while you were at work or what not.

Ah ha! The eggs looked completely covered which was why I was concerned. Must be so exciting to watch them break out !

New picture!
He/she is starting to check out the world! I can see a little red nose!

Had to remove a small section he/she couldn't get through because of the super glue last night but otherwise he/she's doing great!
