I recently received an adult Gopherus Berlanderi or Texas Tortoise as a rescue. It had been passed around through several people and mixed with Sulcattas and Leopard Tortoises before it ended-up in my care. I set him up in his own habitat and dubbed him "Tombstone". I've never had a species of Desert Tortoise before and found him to be quite intriguing. When I first aquired him, he had a minor respiratory infection. It cleared-up over a couple of weeks and he has shown a strong turn-around. He eats like a monster and eagerly will come to you looking for attention or a snack. He will actually stretch his little neck out and allow his head and neck to be scratched. I don't usually see this this in such a small species. He absolutely loves cactus pads and cactus pears!
