Hi. I had a quick question. When I talk to my month old sulcata tortoise it does like a bug swallow action with its throat. Almost like a frog trying to chirp. Is this the way it says he recognized me or just normal? Only does it when I talk and he comes right to me when I talk which is awesome. Just want to make sure its normal and not him saying something I should worry about.

They "throat pump" when they are sniffing the air. Mine also does it when he's a bit nervous right after waking up.

It looks like he's thinking "I'm up. Hmmm, who was here during the night? And is it gone?"

Your tort is smelling when you see that. Your tortoise has learned to associate you with food. So when it sees you it starts smelling the air like "Oooh what did my faithful servant bring me to snack on this time"!
