it takes a sulcata 6 to 8 years to reach full size

No, much longer than that. I got Dudley as a rescue when he was appx. 10 years old. At that time he weighed 35lbs. He is now about 18 years old and has just passed the 100lb marker. He's still growing. But, all tortoises grow at different rates, just as all people do. I know of a guy in Sacramento who has a younger sulcata than Dudley who was 100lbs several years ago. My sister's Bob is about 10 or 12 years old and he's around 50-60lbs. There is no one pattern you can use for each tortoise. Suffice it to say, with good food and exercise your sulcata will be big in no time. Your little one month old sulcata will be fine in his indoor habitat for at least a year. After that you need to start him outside for his health.

Hi Bink!
I just weighed Norm and he weighs about 9 lbs. He is 6 1/2 yrs old. When we got him as a hatchling, we started him out in a 25 gallon tank. He outgrew that and we moved him up to a kiddy pool. We put tupperware containers on either side of the pool and stretched an aquarium screen across the pool to keep the lights on him and up high enough to keep it safe, but he has about outgrown the pool. I am researching outdoor pens for him. The fire ants and wild animals make me really nervous about putting him outside.
Congrats on the new little guy! Good luck!

Here is a picture of my 3, so you can see the size differences. Dino is 3-4, Russell is 6-7, Macy is 8-9. My understanding is that Russell will pass up Macy in size due to her being a female. We are charting their growth. Dino is growing about 1 inch a month, Russell about 3/4 inch a month, and Macy is between 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch a month. We measure them on the 15th of every month, and we weigh them with a large shipping scale we found at a yard saleView attachment 1040.
