The last couple of days I've found patches of tiny floating insects in Cece's water bowl. Each time I've removed the water and thoroughly washed the bowl etc but at the moment it seems like they're going to keep returning. My main concern is whether they pose any risk to me tortoise. Can anyone identify the pests in question and give me any advice?

I've attached a couple of photos for reference. Cece currently doesn't appear to be affected by them but we are going for a health check at the vets next week regardless so I'll ask the vet too. Many thanks!

Please excuse the flowery water bowl/tea tray. She likes to paddle through it... IMG_20171024_095043.jpgIMG_20171024_095038.jpg

They’re detrivores - they live off the food and the substrate - and are an inevitable and completely harmless result of the warm humid environment you provide for your tort’s continuing good health.

Pick out poop as soon as you see it.

Turn over a few rocks or logs outside and catch a few roly polies. These will help to keep the flies down too.
