I know this is a frequently asked question but I'm having a hard time discerning what is "too long" ToTo appears to walk on her nails, rather than (what might be considered) the balls of her feet, in front. I know that they can be cliped (or dremmeled) and to watch for the quick... but I am not sure whether this is normal, or too long.

It sort of depends upon what type of tortoise and sometimes on the tortoise's gender. I've noticed that my female leopard tortoise's claws are VERY long. But this is normal for her species. Russians also seem to have longer claws.

You won't see overgrown claws too much on tortoises that are allowed to live outside half the year. Walking around on uneven and hard ground really helps to keep them trimmed.

If you show us a picture of Toto's claws we can let you know if you have a problem or not.
