7A7722E9-2376-4D53-8A12-832732F246DE.jpeg Toluga is slowing down. I’ve only had her a month. She was found in the middle of the street. Has been healthy and active. I noticed also that her throat is moving every time she breaths. No gurgling or bubbles. She’s been staying outside in an enclosure exposed to ground and grass. My question.. is slowing down behavior before hibernation?

Yes, she's getting ready to hibernate (brumate). The throat pumping is quite normal. (That's a very pretty tortoise)

No. They can't digest food unless their inner core temperature is 80-85F degrees. When they hibernate, they should be around 40-45F degrees. So any food in the stomach/digestive tract would just sit there and rot, probably killing the tortoise.

I live in southern Arizona. It doesn’t usually get that low of temperature. Do these turtle still bromate in this kind of environment?
