I've had my hermanns tortoise for about 2 weeks now and he will not stop scratching at his corners and trying to climb up them. It's gotten concerning because he has already flipped himself once. I've given him several different surfaces to try to keep him occupied but nothing is working.

How big is his enclosure?

Hello and welcome! Some more information on how you’re keeping them would be good.

What are your temperatures like? Ie basking spot?(directly under the bulb) overall day temps? Night temps?
What sized enclosure is it?
What kind of lighting/heating are you using? Packaging photos are great if you have them.
What kind of indoor uv?
How’s your humidity?

Any additional info plus photo(s) of your full set up, along with one of your tortoise would be much appreciated and can help us advise🙂

Hello and welcome. We'll be happy to offer suggestions once we get a little more info.

It's 4 by 6 ft, I've let him run around a bit to get some energy out but he's only 4yrs old so he's so active all the time
Adults do ideally need an 8x4 foot space and no indoor free roaming, and outdoor time needs to be in a secure enclosure.

If we could know a bit more about your temps and equipment that would be good, could we get a photo of your set up?🙂

In the meantime perhaps you’ll find this thread useful👍

Where are you letting him run around a bit?

What are your four temperatures?

What types of bulbs are you using for heat, light, and UV?

Hey there and welcome to the forum, Ryan. You may feel a bit taken back by what may seem to be irrelevant questions, but really, they are very important for us to give you any useful help and figure out the problem your tortoise has! And could you please post a few pictures of the enclosure and the tortoise in it? Then we can get going here! Thanks!
