Hello everyone,
Im having an extremely difficult time identifying my tortoise. I took her in from a neglected home and I have been doing everything in my power since day one to give her the life she deserves. I've narrowed her down to being a testudo tortise and i believe she could be a Hermanns but i can not figure out which. Also I know shes around two or three if that helps.

Your tortoise is a Russian Tortoise (Testudo horsfieldii) which are also known as Afghan Tortoise, Horsfield's Tortoise, Steppe Tortoise, Central Asian Tortoise, and 4 Clawed Tortoise.

100% a russian. Hopefully you find these links helpful!

A great one for new comers;

This one covers correct equipment(uvb, heating bulbs, lighting etc, with visual examples on mounting your lighting, definitely double check bulb types), sizing(you can get away with slightly smaller indoors if you can build a larger outdoor space when weather permits, but still sizeable, the bigger the better), appropriately maintaining the humidity, safe substrates, there’s lots of visual examples for everything, and a really handy diet link to check out!

This includes lots of inspiration for an adult set up both indoors and out! The indoor bit has some good ideas to tackle indoor space whilst still providing the needed roaming room! Check comments too, I’m always adding to it. I know the recommended adult size is intimidating to some, especially if you’ve been lead into thinking he’ll be fine in a smaller set up(very common) but tortoises long term health really does rely on lots of roaming room

This is a guide from one of the most experienced and knowledgeable members on here

Lastly, this one here is probably most important to go over and keep on hand, it’ll help you avoid the wrong bulbs, substrates, housing etc, I always encourage double checking purchases on the forum too before buying😊

I really hope this helps! Sorry is so much to go over, but please take all the time you need and come back with any further questions🐢💚
