Hi guys yesterday I noticed that spud had a long poo line. I left it and he got it caught and a bit fell off. He went into his shell and pushed a bit out then carried on as usual. Today it's still there! What do I do? I have given him a bit of cucumber to give him more fluids. I am soaking him right now in nice warm water but it's not helping! At what point do I need to see a vet?

Relax, you don't know for sure it's a blockage yet. So continue with the soakings and offer him some cactus pads. Those are natural laxatives.

Where do you live? I grow my own to feed but you can also find them in most Hispanic grocery stores.

Maybe someone from the UK can point you in the right direction.

They are a great source of food for both human and tortoises.

I'm from the UK and have never seen prickly pear in the supermarket.
(but not visited too much in the last ten years, so things may have changed)
Keep up with the warm soaks
Aloe can help, if you can get that, or apparently a ride in the car can do the trick.

Glad he is OK. I bought an aloe vera plant from Ikea which I repotted in safe soil and it's growing very nicely in a pot on my window now. It's not generally available to my tort but when he was quite constipated I mashed some up and put it on his food and it seemed to do the trick. He will try to nibble it himself if it is close but I want to make sure any fertilisers etc are out of plants system before I let him at it.

Yep I certainly do! He's so little I worry about him.

Hi, so you're another one who worries a lot it seems, are you? Oli-my tort-has kept me worried for a while: it just WON'T MOVE, although it's been eating well and enjoying warm soaks.
