tortoises skin looks dry

my red footed tortoises head looks dry and i don't have a humidify-er i was wondering if i should get one or if there is something else causing it she gets plenty of water throughout the day and food what should i do? :tort:

You may be keeping the substrate too dry.

I agree she may be too dry, It looks like she is starting to pyramid. You should try to keep the humidity in her enclosure around 80% or higher, if you don't have a humidifier that is ok, I use a spray bottle filled with water and spritz their cage several times a day. A humidifier or a misting system hooked to a timer or humidity controller is nice as you do not need to pay as close attention to the levels since they should take care of themselves but a spray bottle works just fine and will help to correct the dryness.
