Just thought I’d post an update on Raffy my Sulcata tort…. from what I know and see and how he acts and eats He’s in great health and I’m hoping his shell is okay looking.

Hello! He’s adorable! From your first post, I’m afraid to say he has pyramided slightly, don’t suppose you’d mind refreshing on your enclosure details?

What are your temperatures like? Ie basking temp(directly under the bulb), overall day temps, night temps?
What kind of basking bulb do you use?
What’s your indoor uv type?
How’s humidity reading? Is it a closed chamber?
What do you use for substrate?

A photo of the full set up would be great if you’re willing to share🐢💚

This will be virtually insignificant once he’s bigger, but definitely best to get on top of it whilst he’s still a baby

Yes I was afraid so…. I live in rural Pennsylvania and it’s been obviously impossible to get him outside for some natural rays. But during the day in his hide area it’s almost a constant 80 degrees in there with a humidity of 74. And outside his hide area under his basking lamp is 94 F. But just a tad less humid…. I definitely have been very lack of spaying down his substrate and keeping it nice and dampish in there. I have him in a tort table inside of an indoor green house to ensure I can keep a decent humidity.

Hello!
I guess, substrate alone is not enough to saturate with water vapor the whole greenhouse. You may add a shallow tray with water on top of the "hide area" lid.

If UVB lamp that you use is Arcadia Desert 12% - it's placed too low over substrate (11-13 inches enclosure height minus substrate thickness). For this lamp recommended installation height is 18-20 inches above substrate, if lower then UVB level will be too high.

Have you considered turning the greenhouse on its backwall and remove the wooden enclosure? This should give more space for tortoise and with lower ceiling it should be easier to maintain humidity and temperature.

Some good suggestions above to possibly try, especially the water idea for now, I agree I don’t think there’s enough substrate&moisture to keep the whole thing high enough

Those are all great Ideas, i’m definitely going to do some experimenting to get this humidity to a better level! Thanks everyone!
