I’m using the Florescent unit now, it’s 10 inches above there basking area.
How do you know if they are getting the correct lighting? Who here uses either bulb and why and at what height?

MVB are bad for the shell check out the multiple threads. As for the the flourescent 20-24" but a UVB meter is best to determine outputs

The only way to know if they're getting the UVB is if you buy and use a UVB meter.

I switched to fluorescent but folks use the MV blbs. What damage do they cause.
Please suggest a UV meter to buy.

The MVBs are very hot and desiccating. I think they contribute to the tortoise's shell pyramiding.

Here’s my set up, 2 incandescent 60 watt flood
Bulbs keep the basking area at 98-102 degrees, has flagstone there now. Outside of that area now about 80-82. Am I cooking them with the floods? They lay under it for hours.
Fluorescent just behind floods.
