hatchlings do quite well in a viv, for adults most vivs are to small to house so I would go with a tortoise table for adults.

I had no luck keeping humidity levels up in a table, but when I switched to a vivarium it became quite easy. If humidity levels have anything to do with your decision than I vote vivarium.

Depends on species and size/age. Also where you live and the seasons.

I go with what Tom said, plus if you have dogs, cats, and young children to keep out. :D

I would choose a vivarium to start with and then build a big table in a couple of years. Just my opinion.

You are welcome. Just to elaborate: I like to keep babies and younger ones in a more humid, more stable environment. With adults I like to provide the largest space possible (or reasonable) and this is easier with an open topped tortoise table. Adults that are well started and nearly grown don't need the humidity that babies need. They can also tolerate a wider range of temps.

With all tortoises, time in a secure enclosure in the garden is best whenever the weather permits.
