Western Pond turtles are a threatened species and I have been fortunate to keep a couple of them. My most favorite was Wobbles who recently had to be euthanized because she had a serious herpes infection. They are a very sweet species. Wobbles was wild caught missing her right front foot and most of her rear leg and you just never met a nicer turtle. She never once tried to bite me and she was always looking up at me, her sweet face begging for a treat. Putting her to death was one of the hardest things I have ever done. If anyone has a pond turtle looking for a home I sure would take one. I will be at my sister's house in the San Joaquin Valley the first week in June. I'd love it if I could get a pond turtle then...anyone???
