What kind of plant is this, agave?

I have this plant we had for years and wondered what it was, we got it at a flea market so we have no clue what it is. Here is the picture.1468183009938-1798685591.jpg

Looks more like a type of bromeliad. But I'm not sure.

I'm pretty sure a tortoise wouldn't eat it. And it's not toxic.

Are they edible for torts?
Nah they won't. I haven't ever noticed if they try and taste bromeliads either. Just a nice decoration. Yvonne may be onto something about the toxicity. Not sure really. But I've never seen any interest. But I keep these plants not planted in enclosures and just on the outside or above the divider walls. So they aren't really in reach of the a possible taste test anyways.
