What kind of plant is this, agave?

I have this plant we had for years and wondered what it was, we got it at a flea market so we have no clue what it is. Here is the picture.

Yep. Those mainly come from southern Brazil and Bolivia. Very drought tolerant bromeliads.

Are they edible for torts?

I'm pretty sure a tortoise wouldn't eat it. And it's not toxic.

Nah they won't. I haven't ever noticed if they try and taste bromeliads either. Just a nice decoration. Yvonne may be onto something about the toxicity. Not sure really. But I've never seen any interest. But I keep these plants not planted in enclosures and just on the outside or above the divider walls. So they aren't really in reach of the a possible taste test anyways.
