hello everyone! i have been attempting to figure out what locality my baby western hermanns is from! he is from garden state tortoise and i estimate he is almost three months old. i have had him for almost 3 weeks. he also weighs 20 grams. his colors are starting to pop BEAUTIFULLY.
when i purchased him, there were only two spots left for prepaid orders
it didn’t occur to me that Chris sold westerns from different locales so i didn’t think to ask what locale mine would be from (silly i know). i have used Chris’s Hermanni Haven website (where he details traits of different locality babies) and old posts Chris has made on this forum listing prices for T.H.H from different locales. so, i’ve narrowed it down to three locales. apulia, calabria, and tuscany! these three are mainland italian locales i believe, which are cheaper than the insular locales. i did not pay insular locale prices, so that is how i’ve narrowed it down to peninsular italy.
the pictures on his website of calabrian babies look VERY SIMILAR to my baby and the tuscany babies on his website look to have an orange hue and i thought my baby wasn’t super orangish until i took pictures of him today in the sunlight. the apulia baby does not look like mine whatsoever so i think that is least likely. but some of the apulia description seems to match my tortoise.
it’s really difficult for me to confidently say my baby is this or that locale, because to my untrained eye these three locales look very similar. not to mention there is variations within these locales. so i don’t know if it’s productive to ask on this forum lol. i have reached out to Chris a couple weeks ago after i received my baby but haven’t gotten a response so i reckon he’s busy/missed the email, so i might email him later this weekend
